In principle, the sponsor's nuclear family has the right to a residence permit. This right also applies to the children of the sponsor's spouse or cohabitant. Children are defined as persons under the age of 18. In addition, parents of unaccompanied minors also have the right to a residence permit. In order for a person to be granted a residence permit on the basis of a connection to someone in Sweden, the connecting person must be able to support themselves and the applicant, and they must have a home of sufficient size and standard for both. However, there are exceptions to this requirement.
